Netflix's latest horror series, The Haunting of Hill House, has been praised by critics and horror aficionados alike, with Stephen King calling the series "close to a work of genius".

However, some viewers are finding the series so terrifying they are struggling to sleep, passing out, and some people are claiming they want to vomit from fright.

"I love scary movies/shows but The Haunting of Hill House might be the scariest s**t I have ever seen," wrote one Twitter user. "It made me cry and want to vomit at the same time."

Another added: "It makes me want to vomit, cry, and turn on all of the lights in the universe." See more of the reactions below.

The Haunting of Hill House, created by Gerald's Game director Mike Flanagan, is a modern reimagining of Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel of the same name. Flashing between the past and the present, the series follows five siblings who grew up in the most famous haunted house in America.

As adults, they’re reunited once more after the death of their youngest sister, which forces them to finally confront the ghosts of their pasts – some metaphorical, some perhaps literal.

The series stars Michael Huisman, Carla Gugino, Timothy Hutton, Elizabeth Reaser, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Kate Siegel, and Victoria Pedretti.

The Haunting of Hill House is out on Netflix now.
