Enough people have become fascinated by a seemingly NSFW clip from 90s cartoon Hey Arnold! that the cartoon’s creator has had to actually come forth and explain it.

The scene in question sees Arnold and Helga exiting a building while a couple in the background can be seen through a window apparently “eatin a**”, as the Vine user who uploaded the clip captioned it. Naturally it’s amassed over 3.3 million loops.

In an e-mail exchange with The A.V. Club, creator Craig Bartlett said he became aware of the scene going viral earlier in the week, insisting that despite having seen the episode “a hundred times”, he had never “noticed the weird tangent of the two characters,” adding he was “probably watching Arnold and Helga.”

Pressed to clarify exactly what was going on in the scene, he said: The scene is from ‘Arnold’s Thanksgiving and the kids are leaving Mr. Simmons’ apartment, where his family is arguing at the table. That’s Uncle Chuck eating a turkey with his hands.”

So that’s what the kids call it these days.

“I assure you it was never intended to be what the guy tweeted it was,” Bartlett insisted, though there was no explanation for the look of ecstasy on the female character’s face.
