Multiple House of Cards spinoffs are reportedly in the works at Netflix following news it will end with a sixth and final season.

The streaming service confirmed yesterday that the political drama will be drawing to a close in 2018, however, sources say this may not be the last we see of the show's characters.

According to Variety, the favourites to get their own series include Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly) as well as journalists Janine Skorsky (Constance Zimmer) and Tom Hammerschmidt (Boris McGiver) who have spent multiple seasons attempting to expose the criminal behaviour of the show's two central characters, President Frank and Claire Underwood (played by Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright).

Another floated spinoff idea is to shine the light on the Wall Street power brokers providing the Underwoods with their political funding, namely billionaire Raymond Tusk (Gerald McRaney) who has recurred since the show debuted in 2013.

Netflix's decision to end House of Cards has been in the works since last summer, however the announcement arrives in the wake of actor Anthony Rapp's allegation that Spacey sexually harassed him when he was just 14.

The actor - who has had an International Emmy award revoked - issued a statement of apology in which he also came out as gay leading to criticism from several prominent Hollywood figures for implying causation with being closeted and behaving inappropriately with a minor.
