Frank Underwood is taking his presidential campaign extremely seriously if the latest teaser for House of Cards season four is anything to go by.

A new 60-second clip, which aired during Sunday night's Golden Globes ceremony, shows Kevin Spacey's ruthless lead character encouraging US citizens to re-elect him into The White House.

Underwood is dressed up for an official address and is seen promising America a better future as the camera jumps back to snapshots from past drama kept behind closed doors and caused by his thirst for power in earlier series.

"They say we get the leaders we deserve," he says. "Well here's what I think America deserves: A leader whose not afraid to look you in the eye and tell you what he believes. I believe in putting people first. I believe in putting America back on track. I believe in opening doors.and I'm willing to work with both sides so that we all get what we want.

"I'm a humble man, I've never forgotten where I come from. I've taken my licks but I've never taken your support for granted. I believe in pointing people in the right direction but in the end we should all be free to make our own decisions. They say we get the leaders we deserve. I think America deserves Frank Underwood. And in your heart, you know I'm right.

House of Cards returns to Netflix with 23 new episodes on 4 March, just as the real presidential candidates begin their campaigns.

Last month, Underwood hijacked the Republican debate with an address of his own. It began by mocking the cheesiness of political campaign messages with a montage of US flags and soldiers returning home to their families after serving in wars, before Underwood appeared behind his desk to tell the nation ominously: “America, I’m only getting started.“

Excitement is rife for the new season, which will presumably see Underwood without a First Lady after his wife Claire walked out on him.

Netflix has even gone so far as to set up a campaign website for Underwood here.
