House of Cards - trailer

The surprise first trailer for the sixth and final season of House of Cards dropped during the Oscars.

Robin Wright took centre stage as the show's President Claire Underwood addressed viewers ahead of what will be the first run of episodes since Kevin Spacey was fired following allegations of sexual misconduct.

The brief clip sees a camera zoom through a busy White House until we end in the Oval Office with Underwood as she stands to address her audience.

“Were only getting started,” she says as the words Hail to the chief appear onscreen.

There's no word on when fans can expect to see the new season but this trailer hints that it won't be too long before Netflix confirm a release date.

The series' fate was left in the balance after production was halted, however, it was later revealed the show would return for a final stand to reach its natural conclusion - and it has just eight episodes to do it in.

This means season 6 has almost been slashed in half considering the previous five seasons have each boasted a total of 13 episodes.

It was revealed earlier this year that Greg Kinnear and Diane Lane had been hired to appear in the final season.
