Humans: Everything we know about Channel 4's new series so far from the cast to that creepy Persona Synthetics ad

Could artificial intelligence be realised sooner than we think?

You've seen the disturbing 'advert' and chatted about it excitedly with colleagues at the water cooler, but what else do we know about Channel 4's upcoming sci-fi series Humans?

What's it all about? It's all a bit dystopian and Black Mirror-esque. Eight-part drama Humans is about futuristic gadgets called synths who have become the norm in households.

Synths are robot servants creepily similar to their human counterparts. One struggling family buys a synth and soon finds out that life will never be the same again as questions are raised about artificial intelligence and what makes us human. Eek.

Who's in it? William Hurt stars as widower George Millican who forms a fatherlike bond with his outdated Synth Odi when he uses his flawless mind to recall memories of his dead wife.

Katherine Parkinson plays troubled woman Laura whose husband Joe (Tom Goodman-Hill) buys a synth in a desperate bid to solve their problems.

Gemma Chan is Anita the servile synth who every now and then does something "almost human" and Colin Morgan is Leo, on the run with his intriguing synth Max (Ivanno Jeremiah) trying to track down someone from his past.

Rebecca Front is domineering synth Vera and Neil Maskell plays Special Technologies Task Force police officer Peter Drummond.

When does it air? Humans began filming last year and airs at 9pm on 14 June on Channel 4 in the UK and on 28 June on AMC in the US.

So about that Persona Synthetics advert...? It was a super clever marketing tool. Everyone freaked out when fake ads for synths began popping up on TV and social media. There's even a Persona Synthetics website! Tons of viewers fell for this Humans promo clip because that's the world we live in - the idea of robot maids is believable and closer than we think which is exactly the point of the series.

Technology can be terrifying huh?

Is there a normal trailer for the show yet? Yes that dropped just last week but calling it 'normal' is a stretch. This is going to get people buzzing - the scary green eye that snaps open at the start says it all. Look at the way they just stand there staring at you. Argh! "It's a machiiiiiine" an incredulous Joe laughs...but is it?

Is it actually going to be any good? Channel 4 has co-produced Humans with US network AMC, the folks behind Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead and Mad Men. So, probably.

Do I want to watch this before bedtime? Almost certainly not, but you know you will.
