I’m a Celebrity: ITV considers moving show to Scotland for ‘dark, cold and spooky’ version

Hit reality series is usually filmed in Australia, which has been badly affected by coronavirus

ITV is reportedly considering moving production of I’m a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here from Australia to Scotland.

The suggestion comes amid fears that Australia’s coronavirus rates could prevent the hit reality show’s 20th series from going ahead this year.

The broadcaster is already facing financial hardship, with advertising revenues taking a large hit as a result of the ongoing pandemic.

A source told The Daily Mirror: “Having I’m a Celebrity for three weeks in November is seen as a huge priority. Everyone hopes to get back to Australia but over there they are struggling massively with flare-ups resulting in second lock-downs. It simply may not be possible because of safety.

“A decision needs to be made next month – in the meantime, the team is looking at stately homes, castles, mansions in remote areas of Scotland and England to see if we could stage it here.”

The report claimed that the I’m a Celebrity producers were considering the possibility of a “dark, cold and spooky version of the show”.

I’m a Celebrity has been a staple of the ITV calendar since its debut in 2002. Hosted by Ant and Dec, the series sees famous faces camp out in the middle of the “jungle” and complete a series of often disgusting challenges.

Its 19th series, which aired last year, featured celebrities including footballer Ian Wright, reality star Caitlyn Jenner, and Good Morning Britain co-presenter Kate Garraway.
