Jason Isaacs leaves One Show viewers in stitches with ‘impressive book collection’ Zoom backdrop

‘Scoob!’ actor also surrounded himself with ‘mysterious artistic objects’

Jason Isaacs has left The One Show viewers in stitches after appearing via video link against a wall of makeshift items designed to make himself seem interesting.

Guesting on the BBC show to promote his new film Scoob!, Isaacs could be seen sitting in front of sheets of paper stuck to his wall, with each describing items that would ordinarily catch your eye during a video chat.

Sheets reading “impressive book collection” and “mysterious artistic objects” could be seen directly behind Isaacs, while another sheet pasted to his left read “family photos”.

Unusually, presenters Kym Marsh and Amol Rajan did not acknowledge the sheets of paper, or the shelves decorated with Scooby-Doo memorabilia.

Viewers at home, however, tweeted their delight.

“I’ve just seen Jason Isaacs Zoom background for The One Show and it’s f***ing brilliant,” wrote one person. “What a troll.”

“Some politicians could learn from @jasonisaacs room background ... loving it,” wrote another.

Another added: “Jason Isaacs had the best background of any celebrity on #TheOneShow”.

High-profile figures being interviewed from their offices, and showing off their intriguing backdrops in the process, has become a popular internet meme in the coronavirus era. Notable ones have included health secretary Matt Hancock’s spray-painted portrait of The Queen, and Meryl Streep’s suspiciously empty shelves.

Tom Hanks claimed earlier this month that Apple TV+, who have released his new film Greyhound, demanded that all his video interviews be conducted against a white background in order to prevent interviewer distraction. He said it made him feel like he was in “the witness protection programme”.
