Jeremy Clarkson: 'I'm crapping myself' about The Grand Tour

'We've done it hundreds of times. It should be easy. I should be relaxed'

With this year’s season of Top Gear out of the way (and Chris Evans has gone with it) attention has turned to The Grand Tour; Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond’s new motoring series.

The first episode of the Amazon Prime show is set to film in South Africa, and the ‘fracas’ starting host is getting a little nervous.

"We've done it hundreds of times. It should be easy. I should be relaxed," Clarkson wrote in his column for The Sun before filming. "But tomorrow, in a field just outside Johannesburg, James May, Richard Hammond and I will record the first studio segment for our new show, The Grand Tour.

"And I don’t mind telling you. I’m crapping myself.”

Unfortunately, the trio have already been hit with delays after their flight to Johannesburg was held up, Clarkson tweeting: “Dear British Airways. When you delay a flight by 12 hours - 12 - do you have any idea how much inconvenience that causes?” Things were sorted out soon enough.

On the first day of filming, the ex-Top Gear presenter posted a picture of the South African outback onto his Twitter with the caption “This is it. The Grand Tour's first studio day.”

Meanwhile, fellow presenter May was reported to have said he was ‘chuffed’ that Chris Evans had left the BBC’s Top Gear, something that was denied by Clarkson despite a video emerging online.

The Grand Tour will film in the UK later this year, with tickets available through a prize draw.
