Tiger King's Dillon Passage says Joe Exotic is 'in danger' in prison

Tiger King star Joe Exotic is “in danger” in prison and has been kept in solitary confinement for four months, his husband Dillon Passage has claimed.

Last week, the former zoo owner and Netflix star, who is serving a 22-year prison sentence for attempting to have his rival Carole Baskin murdered, alleged that he would be dead in two or three months without the “blood infusions” he needs to treat his antibody deficiency and anemia.

Appearing on The Sunday Project on 14 June, Dillon, 22, verified Exotic’s comments, explaining: “It tears me up, because you know, Joe needs to have his transfusions or he won't make it.

“It's an autoimmune disease,” he continued. “It started with the ulcers on his face. Once that starts, it's downhill from there. His life is in danger. It's very detrimental.”

Dillon also claimed that Exotic had been kept in solitary confinement for four months with all face-to-face visits banned, saying that the couple “only get to chat when he's talking to his lawyers”.

“It's cruel and unusual punishment to the max for sure,” he continued. "I've only been able to speak to him maybe six times since the show. It's pretty ridiculous. He's not doing good. He can't necessarily grasp and stay updated with what's happening out here.”

In response to Exotic’s claims that his experience in prison was “like being sent to Death Row”, the Bureau of Prisons explained that a national lockdown had been implemented across all US prisons in light of the Black Lives Matter protests.

They added that while Exotic’s “access to telephones and electronic communication was limited”, “inmate mail through the US Postal Service was collected and delivered regularly”.

They had no comments to make about Exotic’s claims about his health.
