‘This Covid s**t is no joke’: Comedian dies after documenting his experience with coronavirus

‘If you think that Covid is a joke, if you think this won’t be you...then trust me; it hits everybody differently’, 38-year-old Joe Luna said before succumbing to the illness

Local Los Angeles comedian Joe Luna, who went by the stage name "Joe El Cholo," died just days after documenting his experience with coronavirus on social media.

Posting to Instagram on 21 November, the 38-year-old comedian shared his experience with viewers and emphasized the seriousness of his illness.

"I’m going to show you guys my journey through my good and bad times because it’s all about showing my people out there, if you think that Covid is a joke, if you think this won’t be you...then trust me; it hits everybody differently."

According to Fox 11 LA, Luna could regularly be found performing at East LA clubs such as The Ice House in Pasadena and Hollywood Improv.

He was reportedly admitted to Victor Valley Global Medical Center shortly after contracting Covid and passed away on 23 November, just two days after he began documenting his experience.

Luna's son Jose Talavera, who also tested positive for the coronavirus, described his father's condition. "It was like his lungs were hurting more than we all felt before. All of us were coughing and sneezing", he said.

Talavera also noted that the entire family was sick, but Luna had a particularly difficult time given his prior health issues (Luna had diabetes and was a double amputee).

"For his funeral, he doesn't want anyone crying so we're going to put together a show because that's what he would have wanted. He wanted people to be laughing and having fun", said Talavera.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral costs.
