John Oliver demands Congress impeach Trump after Comey firing

After a week of unbelievable news becoming reality, late night hosts across the political spectrum criticised Donald Trump over the firing of James Comey.

“President Trump. Two words that continue to sound revolting together, like ‘Viscous Discharge’ or ‘Moist Stockings’,” John Oliver said, opening Last Week Tonight. The ex- actor then lambasted the Republican for dismissing the person investigating the Russia ‘scandal’.

“Surprise, everyone!” Oliver said. “Do you remember normal weeks? Because I don’t! Everything about Comey’s firing was unusual. From the fact he himself found out about the news on TV to the termination letter which was genuinely weird.”

After reading out Trump’s letter — “while I greatly appreciate your informing me on three separate occasions I am not under investigation” — Oliver commented on how suspicious the President seemed attempting to put words into Comey’s mouth.

“That is the equivalent of a breakup text that says “While I greatly appreciate you informing me on three separate occasions that I was the most enthusiastic, dextrous, and intuitive lover you have ever had, I must terminate your position as my girlfriend.”

Oliver then listed off numerous ways the Trump administration has attempted to dismiss any accusations; until the President admitted on Television he was going to fire Comey without talking to his team.

“Trump is so desperate to appear dominant, he will rush to take the credit for anything, no matter how bad it is,” Oliver said. “If you wanted him to confess to murder all a lawyer would have to say is, ‘your honour, the killer could not possibly have been Donald Trump, it must have been someone much stronger, and smarter, with a much hotter daughter’. And before they finished that sentence, Trump would be yelling ‘I did it, it was me’.”

In the same interview, Trump also admitted that the Russia investigation was part of the decision, Oliver commenting: “What are you doing? ‘I was thinking of the Russia investigation when I fired Comey’ is the one thing that you are not supposed to say out loud!”

After quickly going through other Trump/Comey news from the week, including a ‘threatening’ Tweet about revealing tapes, Oliver called on Congress to do something.

“The Founding Fathers created a system of checks and balances to limit the power of the President, but it only works if someone f**king checks, or balances. And if you don’t, it’s no longer on Trump. It’s on you.” Watch below.
