Lisa Sheridan, who was best known for her roles in Invasion and Halt and Catch Fire, has died aged 44.

Sheridan’s manager, Mitch Clem, confirmed her death in a statement to PEOPLE on Wednesday, 27 February.

“Lisa passed away on Monday morning. She was at home in New Orleans. Cause of death is not known at this time. We are waiting for the coroners,” the statement reads. “Obviously, we were all blindsided with this devastating loss. Lisa was deeply loved. We are heartbroken.”

Clem further dismissed reports on social media that she had died by suicide. He said: “The family has unequivocally confirmed that this is not a suicide. Any suggestion to the contrary is absolutely, 100% unfounded.”

Having attended the Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in Pittsburgh, Sheridan went on to star in a string of film and TV credits of the next two decades.

She starred in the 2018 film Strange Nature, alongside roles in the TV shows FreakyLinks, Legacy, Las Vegas, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, Diagnosis: Murder, Journeyman, and The Mentalist.

Friends of Sheridan paid tribute to the actor on social media. Donna D’Errico, who worked with Sheridan on the 2015 film Only God Can, wrote on Facebook: “I just received news that my dear friend, actress Lisa Sheridan, has passed away. She was found Monday morning. I am sitting here stunned.”

“Lisa and I filmed a movie together 5 years ago and became very close on set and remained close friends after filming ended. It’s so rare to find kind, gentle souls like hers in this industry, this city… even this world. Truly one of the most genuinely sweet and gentle people I’ve ever come across in my life. She brought a sweetness and bright energy to any room she happened to walk into…even in her darker times.”

She continued: “I am devastated by this loss. I had just spoken with her and everything seemed great and she seemed happy and in good spirits. Everyone who knew her loved and adored her. Goodbye and goodnight sweet angel… I will miss you terribly. Please send up prayers for her family.”

Filmmaker Michael Dunaway wrote: “She called me Big Brother, and for all intents and purposes I was. I met Lisa when she was fourteen years old, over thirty years ago. We were immediately attached at the hip, true soulmates from minute one.”

Despite reports on social media saying Sheridan may have taken her life, Clem said her death was not the result of suicide.

“The family has unequivocally confirmed that this is not a suicide. Any suggestion to the contrary is absolutely, 100% unfounded,” he said.
