Disney+ releases second trailer for 'Loki'

The new trailer for Loki has been released by Marvel, ahead of the series’ debut on Disney Plus this June.

The show will focus on Tom Hiddleston’s impish villain from the Marvel Cinematic Universe as he travels through time.

Most of Loki’s plot details have been kept tightly under wraps by Marvel, but the new trailer gives fans a bit more of an idea what to expect.

Many fans have focused on one moment in the trailer which seems to shed new light on a key scene in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

Loki (Tom Hiddleston) was killed off during the events of Avengers: Infinity War (2018), but a version of him in an alternate timeline was able to escape using a tesseract in Avengers: Endgame (2019). It is this version of the character which Loki follows.

Endgame was the first MCU film to really explore alternate timelines, as Steve Rogers and co travelled back in time to retrieve the Infinity Stones, creating branching timelines which would then be fixed when the stones were replaced.

In the new Loki trailer, Owen Wilson’s character, Mobius M Mobius, tells Loki: “You picked up the tesseract, breaking reality. I want you to help us fix it.”

We are also shown a glimpse of a TV monitor which depicts a line that branches off in several directions.

Fans have speculated on the role that these alternate timelines will play in the series, with many suggesting that the series will in fact set up the forthcoming film Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, out next year, is already confirmed to tie into WandaVision, and will explore the so-called “multiverse”, which comprises a collection of alternate universes.

The allusion to a “broken reality” and multiple timelines in the trailer has prompted many fans to speculate that Loki will be re-incorporated into the main MCU timeline ahead of the Doctor Strange sequel.

“Damn, they went all in with the multiple timelines,” wrote one fan on Twitter. “#Loki is more apt for title ‘Multiverse of madness’. This is absurdly awesome.”

“The new Loki trailer basically confirms that there can be hope for Loki to appear in Multiverse of Madness since he’s messing with the timeline and that season 2 will be in production next year,” wrote someone else.

“Ok yeah after seeing that trailer loki is 1000% going to be in Multiverse of Madness,” wrote another Twitter user.

Loki arrives on Disney Plus on 11 June.
