Love Island's Idris tells Laura that Jack 'went in for a kiss' with Georgia

As the contestants on this year's series of Love Island "graft" their way around the Spanish villa with puppy dog eyes, the UK is gearing up for what is sure to be a nation-shaking semi-final World Cup fixture against Croatia.

So, did these contestants sacrifice the chance to witness it 'coming home' in favour of a lengthy stay in the sun-soaked villa and a potential new partner?

We reached out to ITV to confirm whether this was indeed the case.

“No they haven’t watched it and at the moment, [there are] no plans for them to do so,” Justin Jefferies, ITV's Publicity Manager for Comedy and Entertainment, told us.

This means that the contestants, including Jack, Dani, Sam, Samira and Josh, are theoretically in the dark over the fact that Gareth Southgate has led our squad to the semi-finals for the first time in pretty much all of their lives (the last time was 1990).

Now, we hear you asking, what about newcomers Idris and Kieran? If they've seen the infamous 'kiss' between Georgia and Jack - the one that Idris told Laura he'd witness on-screen at the climax of last night's episode - surely they weren't cooped up in a hidden location up until their eventual arrival in the villa.

We're sure it's a case of them merely having been sworn to secrecy - even though we're willing to bet Josh prised the information from new girlfriend, Kazimira as well as Ellie from Charlie.

Anyway, now we know why Adam Collard was so happy to be leaving the villa (sorry, Zara).

One diehard fan of the ITV2 reality series has taken matters into their own hands and launched a Change.org petition in a bid to get the semi-final screened for the contestants (just 33 signatures so far...).

“It would be cruel and inhumane to continue to deprive the Islanders of so much wonderful football. The World Cup is a human right," the bio reads. “We implore the bosses of ITV and FIFA to swiftly come to an agreement to bring an end to this dire state of affairs and let the boys and girls of Love Island watch the rest of this magical and thrilling World Cup.”

Love Island continues tonight at the later time of 9.30pm.
