Love Island US: When does it start, who are the contestants and how can I watch?

New group of hopefuls will take part in the US reality dating show, held on the island of Fiji

TV fans in the US are preparing themselves for a new series of Love Island featuring an all-American cast of hopeful singles.

Over the past few years, Americans have cottoned on to the reality dating phenomenon that, each season, airs every night at 9pm on ITV2.

The show has attracted celebrity fans including Lena Dunham and Amy Schumer, and now they’re finally getting their own version, which launches tomorrow (9 July) on CBS.

Here’s what you need to know:

What will the US version be like?

Love Island US will follow pretty much exactly the same format as the UK one. It will start with 10 single men and women who are willing to spend months wearing nothing but skimpy bathing suits. They will be immediately paired up and share beds in one big room. As the show goes on, more men and women are added as contestants to stir things up, helped by regular “recouplings” and “dumpings” – where couples can be voted off the show either by public vote or their fellow contestants. The most popular couple at the end of the show, again voted for by the public, wins a cash prize.

Unfortunately for US viewers, they won’t be treated to the volley of expletives that UK viewers get to experience, because CBS is notoriously stuffy about things like that, and the episodes will air at 8pm.

Where is it set?

The UK version takes place in Majorca, but the US contestants are heading to the South Pacific island of Fiji.

Who is hosting the show?

The US version will be hosted by former Vine star and actor Arielle Vandenberg. She told People she's a “huge fan of the UK show.

What does the villa look like?

A recent tour of the US villa shows it also has a very similar layout to the UK one, albeit with some fancier interior design, right down to the neon artwork. It has the main bedroom, a bathroom, swimming pool, kitchen area, and “The Hideaway”, where one couple can spend a night together away from the rest of the group.

When will it air?

The first US season launches on 9 July and will air every weekday (the UK version is seven days a week) for four weeks.
