Netflix renews Brazilian sleeper hit 3% for third season

The series is one of the streaming service's most binged shows

Netflix may have an overwhelming library of content to wade through but one of its most exciting TV shows is flying extremely under the radar in the UK and US despite being renewed for a third season.

Brazilian series 3% was originally aired in 2017 where it received modest attention garnering a cult following across its nine-episode run. The second season was released on the streaming service earlier this year and it's now confirmed it will return in 2019 for a third.

Set in a dystopian near-future, the series follows 20-year-old candidates who undergo the Process, a gruellingly cryptic selection method consisting of difficult challenges designed to win three per cent a spot in an idyllic land known as the Offshore.

3%, which has been compared to The Hunger Games franchise, is one of Netflix's 'most devoured shows' worldwide beating the likes of 13 Reasons Why and Stranger Things with American Vandal coming out on top.

The series is created by Spanish filmmaker Pedro Aguilera and stars Bianca Comparato, Michel Gomes and João Miguel as Ezequiel, the corrupt head of the Process.

In recent years, Netflix has released numerous shows produced from various countries including France (Marseille), Germany (Dark) and Italy (Suburra: Blood on Rome).
