A new teaser trailer for Gracepoint has been released ahead of its debut in the US this week.

The clip for the Broadchurch remake stars David Tennant in the role of Detective Emmett Carver as he reassures the small coastal town that Danny’s killer will be found.

In the very words he uses in Broadchurch, the Scottish actor says: “There will be no hiding place for Danny’s killer” in an American accent.

The trailer also shows Danny’s mother, Beth Solano, running through the town’s streets in slow motion as she discovers her son’s body has been found, in a similar sequence to Jodie Whittaker in the opening episode of Broadchurch.

The US remake, written by Broadchurch writer Chris Chibnall, has drawn criticism for being “pointlessly similar” to the ITV original for the sake of pleasing US audiences.

Olivia Colman, who stars in Broadchurch as DS Ellie Miller, does not appear in Gracepoint despite winning a Bafta for her performance.

She is replaced by Breaking Bad’s Anna Gunn in the starring role alongside Tennant.

The former Doctor Who star recently defended his US accent after fans suggested he should have kept his Scottish accent in the remake.

“If they’re fans of Doctor Who, I didn’t use a Scottish accent in that, either. I used an English accent in that,” he told the Daily Record.
