The National Rifle Association has been on the offensive in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting, rampantly promoting those who continue to support it on Twitter.

"Thank you for being the voice of over 5 Million #NRA members," it tweeted radio host Dana Loesch following her participation in and pro-gun stance a town hall meeting last night, alongside a GIF of Parks and Recreation's Leslie Knope.

The use of a pop culture GIF in the debate as 14 lie dead was distasteful enough for many, but it particularly annoyed Parks and Rec co-creator Michael Schur and Leslie Knope actor Amy Poehler, the former of which tweeted: "Hi, please take this down. I would prefer you not use a GIF from a show I worked on to promote your pro-slaughter agenda.

"Also, Amy isn't on twitter, but she texted me a message: 'Can you tweet the NRA for me and tell them I said fuck off?'"

It's beside the point but, if anything, a Ron Swanson GIF might have made more sense for the NRA to co-opt, Knope being a progressive politician who idolised Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden.

Later in the evening, Schur retweeted and appeared to endorse Parkland student Emma Gonzalez's use of a Parks clip. Poehler's co-star Adam Scott also chimed in (above).
