Oprah Winfrey is donating $10m to coronavirus relief efforts.

The TV icon made the announcement on Thursday, tweeting: ”I am donating $10 million overall to help Americans during this pandemic in cities across the country and in areas where I grew up.”

Included in the $10m donation is a $1m contribution to an initiative led by Leonardo DiCaprio, Laurene Powell Jobs, Apple and the Ford Foundation, called America’s Food Fund.

“I believe that America’s Food Fund will be a powerful way to make a difference for our neighbours in need and am committing $1m to this fund to support those facing food insecurity,” Winfrey wrote.

America’s Food Fund was also unveiled on Thursday.

DiCaprio shared a link to the initiative’s Go Fund Me page, crediting World Central Kitchen and Feed America for ”their unwavering commitment to feed the most vulnerable people in need”.

World Central Kitchen and Feed America will be America’s Food Fund’s first two beneficiaries.

DiCaprio and Jobs made a joint donation of $5m. Another $5m contribution came from Apple.

The Ford Foundation also contributed $1m.
