BBC's Ordeal by Innocence to replace Ed Westwick following sexual assault allegations

Ed Westwick will be removed from the BBC's Ordeal by Innocence following allegations of sexual assault.

The Agatha Christie drama had been shot in full and was originally due to air over Christmas; scenes will be reshot later this month, with actor Christian Cooke replacing Westwick in the three-episode series.

The news was announced by co-producers Mammoth Screen and Agatha Christie Limited, adding that a new air date for the series will be also be announced in due time.

Westwick has been accused of sexual assault by three women, two accusing him of rape. The actor strongly denies the accusations, releasing a statement on social media following the first two accusations reading: "It is disheartening and sad to me that as a result of two unverified and provably untrue social media claims, there are some in this environment who could ever conclude I have had anything to do with such vile and horrific conduct."

"I absolutely have not, and I am cooperating with the authorities so that they can clear my name as soon as possible." The star has also "paused" filming on the second series of BBC Two comedy White Gold, in which he stars as an Essex double glazing salesman.

Ordeal by Innocence also stars Bill Nighy, Anna Chancellor, Matthew Goode, Eleanor Tomlinson, Anthony Boyle, Luke Teadaway, Morven Christie, Crystal Clarke, Elle Purnell, and Alice Eve - who have returned to the project to reshoot scenes on location in Scotland.
