Peep Show receiving US remake on Starz

This will be the third version of a US adaptation, following attempts in 2005 and in 2008

Never is the cult British TV show safe from the admiring gaze of US networks, eager to earn a quick buck with formless replication.

Ever since the US' own version of The Office not only successfully launched into its own being, but - arguably - went on to supersede its UK originator; networks have been desperate to replicate the success, with largely disastrous results. It Crowd fell victim to a near-identical replication which bizarrely brought back Richard Ayoade as Moss, alongside Community's Joel McHale.

Peep Show, which concluded its 12-year run on Channel 4 last year, already suffered a remake attempt in 2005; when Fox produced a pilot with The Big Bang Theory's Johnny Galecki attempting to recreate the charm of David Mitchell's Mark Corrigan.

A series failed to be commissioned, but that hasn't stopped Starz from launching a now-third attempt at a US Peep Show, following a short-lived 2008 project at Spike.

The show's original creators, Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, will serve as consulting producers on the series (via Deadline); with a script set to be penned by Son of Zorn co-creator Eli Jorne, who will also serve as executive producer/showrunner.

"We are hugely relieved to hand over the responsibility of coming up with the dark and twisted thoughts of two terrible men to the extremely funny, dark and twisted Eli Jorne," Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong said jointly.

No premiere date has been announced for the series.
