Peter Kay delights fans with rare radio interview
Comedian has mostly stayed out of public eye since 2018
Peter Kay fans were treated to a rare media appearance from Peter Kay on Saturday morning (2 January), as he joined Cat Deeley for a chat on BBC Radio 2.
The comedian, who has mostly stayed out of the public eye since the final episode of his sitcom Car Share aired in 2018, discussed the New Year and embarrassing stories.
Fans were delighted, with one person tweeting: “How WONDERFUL to hear him on #Radio2 just now, very much missed & still as funny as ever, hope he does more soon!”
Another added: “So good to hear Peter Kay chattering away on the radiogram. Can't not smile. Missed his joyful laugh.”
“Listening to Peter Kay on @BBCRadio2 is filling me with joy!” said a third.
Kay sparked concern in 2019 after he cancelled his long-awaited UK and Ireland tour, citing “unforeseen circumstances”.
Last summer, he wrote a new heartfelt sketch for Car Share, which he donated to a tribute book for the NHS titled 100 Stories to Say Thank You.
In the piece, Kay’s character John reunites with his supermarket colleague Kayleigh (Sian Gibson) to discuss a cancer scare and brain scan he once had.
