Phillip Schofield to release ‘very emotional’ tell-all book this year after coming out as gay

Presenter was reportedly offered a £1.5m publishing deal

Phillip Schofield has confirmed he is releasing a “very emotional” memoir later this year.

The This Morning host, who came out as gay in February, has written a book – Life Is What You Make It – during lockdown.

In a video on his Instagram, Schofield revealed he has been planning his memoir since he was 14 years old.

“I have something to tell you which I am very, very excited about,” he said. “I have finally, after being asked for many years, written my book. I wrote the first line when I was 14 and I knew exactly how I wanted it to start, should I ever write it, and it is in fact now the first line."

He continued: “In 2017, I wrote the first few chapters and sent it a few friends and they were like, ‘Oh my god, you have to write this,’ and I knew I couldn’t and you know why.”

He added the book will take fans “behind-the-scenes of my life and my career and my family and my friends” and delve into the “ups and downs” and “very, very, emotional times”.

Schofield’s memoir will hit shelves on 15 October. It was reported last month that the presenter had been offered a £1.5m book deal to recount his experience of coming out.

The This Morning presenter, who has been married to Stephanie Lowe for 27 years, revealed the news he was gay in February: “With the strength and support of my wife and my daughters, I have been coming to terms with the fact that I am gay.”

Schofield began his media career in 1982 when he worked in New Zealand radio before taking a job at the BBC.

He hosted shows including Schofield’s Quest before he landed his role as This Morning co-host in 2002 with Fern Britton.

Schofield has co-presented This Morning with Holly Willoughby for more than a decade, with the pair known for their high-spirited presenting style.
