The View’s Sunny Hostin believes Piers Morgan’s “obsession” with Meghan Markle might be “based on his own fragility”.

Hostin and her co-hosts discussed Morgan’s reaction to Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey on Tuesday’s broadcast of the talk show. Their conversation came after Morgan walked off the set of Good Morning Britain after his co-star Alex Beresford condemned his statements about the interview.

Morgan has since decided to leave Good Morning Britain, ITV has said in a statement.

On Tuesday, Hostin reflected on Morgan’s decision to walk off the GMB set, stating: “Isn’t it interesting that Piers Morgan can walk away from a slightly uncomfortable situation, but Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan cannot walk away from more than a slightly uncomfortable situation that put her mental health and her life at risk?”

She played a clip from a 2018 interview Morgan gave to RTÉ One’s The Late Late Show, in which he said he once had drinks with Meghan Markle before she met Harry. “I put her in a cab, and it turned out to be a cab that took her to a party where she met Prince Harry,” he says in the clip. “And then the next night, they had a solo dinner together, and that was the last I ever heard from Meghan Markle. I have never heard from her again.”

In that same interview, Morgan adds shortly after the excerpt shown by Hostin: “She ghosted me! Meghan Markle ghosted me!”

After the video aired, Hostin mused: “So I suppose that his obsession with her is based on his own fragility, isn’t it?”

Morgan’s comments about Harry and Meghan’s interview have attracted widespread criticism and calls for Morgan to be fired.

Ofcom has announced it has launched a probe into Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain – during which Morgan made the remarks – after receiving more than 41,000 complaints.

An Ofcom spokesperson told PA it’s investigating the episode “under our harm and offence rules”.
