The first trailer for ITV’s dramatic re-enactment of the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? coughing scandal has been released.

Quiz tells the story of Charles and Diana Ingram, who attempted what was described as an “audacious heist” on the quiz show presented by Chris Tarrant back in 2001.

Together with accomplice Tecwen Whittock, the couple were accused of cheating their way to the million pound prize fund when the series was at the height of its popularity.

Major Ingram selected 15 answers that were correctly dictated to him by his wife and Whittock through coughs in the studio audience.

The series, directed by Stephen Frears and adapted from the play by James Graham, stars Matthew Macfadyen (Spooks, Succession) in the lead role.

Fleabag actor Sian Clifford plays Diana Ingram while Michael Sheen plays Tarrant.

Other actors to appear in the three-part series include Mark Bonnar, who plays Celdaor Television Chairman, Paul Smith and Aisling Bea as ITV Entertainment Commissioner, Claudia Rosencrantz.

Helen McCrory plays Sonia Woodley QC in scenes depicting the ensuing court case.

Quiz begins on ITV in April.
