Seth Meyers calls out Trump over White House coronavirus outbreak: ‘He’s Typhoid Mary if she held rallies'

Seth Meyers calls Trump a one-man superspreader

Seth Meyers has used his Closer Look segment on Thursday 8 October to analyse the coronavirus outbreak at the White House, and condemned Trump for his behaviour after testing positive for the virus himself.

Meyers cited a “shocking” report published this week by USA Today that suggested the White House outbreak may have exposed thousands of people across multiple states to Covid-19.

“He’s Typhoid Mary if she held rallies,” Meyers said, adding that the outbreak is being traced back to what is being branded a “super spreader event”, where people gathered at the White House to introduce Amy Coney Barrett as Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court.

Many in attendance at the event, which was held at the Rose Garden, did not wear masks or social distance, and many were pictured hugging one another.

“Engaging in this kind of behaviour during a pandemic is like slathering yourself in honey and whacking a hornet's nest with a baseball bat,” Meyers said.

Meyers also addressed ongoing speculation over the state of Trump’s mental health, noting that the steroids he is taking “can reportedly have psychological side effects”.

“I'm not a mental health expert but I could tell the difference between bad and worse,” he said.

He referred to Trump’s first interview since testing positive for Covid-19 as “televised therapy sessions”, condemning the US president for his sporadic comments about his health, the election, and the pandemic.

“Listening to one of these interviews with Trump is like taking a bunch of your racist uncle’s Facebook posts and putting them in a blender,” Meyers said. “He sounds like he’s writing a YA novel after burying his face in a mound of Adderall.”

In another video message, Trump began by referring to himself as “your favourite president”, which Meyers said “almost sounds like he’s being ironic”.

“He knows how much people don’t like him,” he said.

Meyers encouraged viewers to vote at the end of his show.
