After a decade of absence, Sarah Jessica Parker is once again set to hit the streets of New York on the small screen, this time as part HBO’s new comedy series Divorce.

Following a successful pilot directed by Jesse Peretz, Divorce has been commissioned for an entire series, attaching Parker to her first major TV series since Sex and the City.

She played Carrie Bradshaw in the hit show between 1998 and 2004 and subsequently starred in two spin-off movies which were big box office hits.

Divorce , which has been hailed as a more grown-up successor to Sex and the City, will centre on Frances – played by Parker – who, encouraged by her friends, attempts to divorce her husband - with apparently comedic results.

Other stars of the show include Thomas Haden Church, Molly Shannon and Talia Balsam.

Sharon Hogan, best known for creating and starring in Bad Management, Dead Boss and Catastrophe, is the show's writer and will also co-produce alongside Parker, Paul Simms, Aaron Kaplan and Alison Benson.

HBO is also considering the release of a Sarah Silverman comedy pilot.
