Sherlock's Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat teaming up for Dracula miniseries

Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat — the duo behind the BBC’s hit crime drama Sherlock — are reuniting to tackle another of literature's most iconic characters, Dracula.

According to Variety, the pair will write the series while Sue Vertue, who also worked on Sherlock, will produce the Bram Stoker adaptation.

While Gatiss and Moffat are yet to start work on the project, talks are already underway with the BBC for broadcasting rights.

Details regarding the series are minimal — casting has yet to begin — Dracula be the same format as Sherlock, coming as a miniseries run of feature-length episodes. There’s no word on whether the series will feature a modern day setting.

With Moffat stepping away from Doctor Who following this year’s Christmas special and Sherlock having yet-to-be-renewed for another series, Dracula will plug any future void in his working schedule.

Gatiss, meanwhile, will appear in the upcoming TV movie Against the Law, followed by Guy Fawkes series Gunpowder, featuring Kit Harrington, Liv Tyler, and Tom Cullen. The actor/writer has previously spoken of his admiration for the 1958 version of Dracula starring Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.

Meanwhile, Moriarty actor Andrew Scott recently said we shouldn’t expect another season of Sherlock anytime soon. With work likely beginning on Dracula soon, the inevitable return of Holmes has likely been delayed slightly longer.
