Author and activist Sil Lai Abrams has claimed that NBC buried her rape allegation and “put women’s lives at risk”.

In an op-ed published in The Daily Beast on Monday, Abrams alleged she was “one of the many survivors that NBC silenced” and claimed that Ronan Farrow is not the only reporter to have a story of sexual misconduct killed by NBC News.

“Incredibly, a year after NBC botched Farrow’s reporting on Harvey Weinstein, they had the audacity to do it again,” she wrote, claiming that the network refused to report on her sexual assault allegations against hip hop mogul Russell Simmons and Extra co-host AJ Calloway.

Both men have denied all allegations against them.

In the piece, Abrams writes she “had no idea that NBC had a reputation for not breaking news about men accused of sexual assault”.

“NBC put women’s lives at risk,” said Abrams. “This is one of the darkest of NBC’s sins.”

While Abrams has previously spoken out about NBC allegedly silencing her, she has elaborated on the experience now due to Ronan Farrow’s new book Catch and Kill, in which he alleges that Weinstein used former NBC anchor Matt Lauer’s own alleged sexual misconduct as leverage.

NBC previously said it did not have enough evidence to report Abrams’s story and has not yet commented on her article in The Daily Beast.
