Idris Elba pokes fun at James Bond rumours

Idris Elba poked fun at rumours he could play James Bond after Daniel Craig.

The Thor actor hosted last night's (9 March) Saturday Night Live and made the joke during a segment titled "Can I Play That?".

The sketch saw Elba take part in a fictional game show where contestants are asked whether they could play certain roles, with Twitter acting as the decider.

One moment, for instance, saw Elba's character being asked whether he could play a blind man. After answering "I could play that", a buzzer went off and the Kenan Thompson's host said: "God took their sight, and now you want to take their jobs."

Just as the sketch was wrapping up, Thompson asked the contestants whether they could play James Bond. Elba quickly answered "I know that one", to which Thompson responded: “Do you, though?”

Elba has long been rumoured to play the next James Bond. However, although Craig once joked about rather "slitting his wrists" than return to the role, the actor will once again portray the spy in the upcoming, heavily delayed 2020 film.

Meanwhile, also during the episode of Saturday Night Live, Pete Davidson joked about the age difference between himself and Kate Beckinsale.
