Saturday Night Live: Comedian Ted Alexandro claims SNL ‘stole’ joke from old stand-up routine

Stand-up told the hit NBC sketch show to 'Venmo me the sum of 1 million dollars'

Comedian Ted Alexandro has claimed that Saturday Night Live "stole" a joke from his recent stand-up special.

Alexandro shared a clip of his routine side-by-side with the SNL segment, which aired as a pre-recorded skit during last Saturday's (6 February) episode.

"Dear @nbcsnl, since you stole my Zillow joke last night please Venmo me the sum of 1 million dollars," joked the stand-up. "My full special Cut/Up is on YouTube if you need more ideas."

"You have until kickoff," he added, referring to the start of last night's (7 February) NFL Super Bowl event.

While Alexandro's joking tone suggests he is making the allegation light-heartedly, the clip of his stand-up routine, which was posted on YouTube last September, does bear some similarities to the SNL segment.

The SNL sketch centres around the US real estate company Zillow, and comprises a fake, overtly sexualised advertisement espousing the company's benefits.

Alexandro's routine, meanwhile, sees the comedian imagine a series of sexually charged text messages about  Zillow listings, drawing erotic appeal from the supposedly "adult" nature of real estate.

Saturday Night Live airs on Sky Comedy in the UK, and on NBC every Saturday in the US.
