The long-mooted Sons of Anarchy spin-off may be arriving sooner than you think.

Mayans MC has been announced for some time now but it's been uncertain whether the series would make it to air - however, following an appearance on a reel for US network FX's new streaming service at this year's TCA (Television Critics Association) press tour, it seems it's made the cut.

The Kurt Sutter-created series Sons of Anarchy, which followed motorcycle group SAMCRO, began in 2008 and ran for seven seasons until 2014 starring Charlie Hunnam, Katey Sagal and Ron Perlman.

It is currently unknown when the “contemporary” spin-off will begin, but it will focus on rival motorcycle group, the Mayans, led by JD Pardo as a young club prospect named EZ Reyes.

Speaking about the series last year, Sutter said: “We’re figuring out what that would look like and I’m in the process of meeting with writers and narrowing it down. My intent is, over the hiatus I’ll initiate a script for the pilot and take it from there.”

He's not ruling out a crossover either, levelling: “I wouldn’t want to set it too close to the world we already know, and step on that."
