One-half of the duo that created Stranger Things has revealed that one main character was originally supposed to be killed off at the end of season 1.

Ross Duffer, who serves as the Netflix hit series showrunner alongside his brother Matt, confirmed that the character Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) was never intended to be brought back for the second season which was recently unveiled on the streaming service.

Duffer confirmed the news at Chapman University in California during a recent Q&A at which he reportedly said: “Maybe I shouldn’t say this because I like to pretend that it was all planned out, but [the show] was originally pitched as a limited series. So it was like, Eleven was gonna sacrifice herself and save the world and then that was gonna be it.”

He went on to admit that plans had been made for a potential follow-up in case the series performed well, but Eleven never featured in any of them.

As it stands, the show has become one of Netflix's biggest ever TV shows with a third season expected to be confirmed imminently. Teasing what future episodes would bring, Duffer stated that Lucas' sister Erica would be handed more scenes.
