Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard has given an update on when fans can expect the show’s fourth season to finally be released.

Season three of the Netflix hit came out in July 2019. The fourth season was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, which forced a large number of programmes to suspend production.

Wolfhard, who portrays Mike Wheeler on the sci-fi show, was asked when season four can be expected to come out in a recent call on Fanmio, a platform which enables fans to meet celebrities via video link.

“Season four? It should be out some time next year, hopefully,” Wolfhard said in a clip later shared by the Twitter fan account SThingsSpoilers, indicating that fans can now expect to wait until 2022 to dive into the new instalment.

The Independent has contacted Netflix for more information.

Stranger Things, set in the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, began airing in 2016 and quickly became a fan favourite.

In addition to Wolfhard, the series features Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, and more,
