Strictly Come Dancing has finally returned (properly) to our TV screens, contestants taking to the dance floor on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Already, numerous favourites have emerged after sterling debuts in the ballroom, Daisy Lowe and Aljaz Skorjanec becoming the frontrunners thanks to a fantastic Waltz to Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable,” scoring the pair 32 points.

On the other end of the spectrum, former Labour MP and shadow Chancellor Ed Balls failed to impress the judges (not the public, however), scoring just 21 points for his Waltz.

Here are the five best performances from week one of Strictly according to the judges (and Ed Balls’s Waltz, of course).

Daisy Lowe and Aljaz Skorjanec’s waltz to “Unforgettable” - 32 points

Louise Redknapp and Kevin Clifton’s jive to “Jump, Jive And Wail” - 31 points

Danny Mac and Oti Mabuse’s cha cha to “Cake By The Ocean” - 31 points

Will Young and Karen Clifton’s tango to “Let’s Dance” - 30 points

Anastacia and Brendan Cole’s cha cha to “Lady Marmalade” - 28 points

And Ed Balls and Katya Jones’s waltz to “Are You Lonesome Tonight” - 21 points
