Eagle-eyed Doctor Who fans have spotted a reference to Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor in the new series of The Boys.

The second season of Amazon Prime Video’s superhero series launched on the streaming service last Friday (4 September), with the first three episodes available to stream while new episodes will drop weekly.

It was one moment in the season’s third episode that initially caught the attention of Doctor Who fans, after Frenchie (Tomer Capon) was seen wearing a t-shirt with a picture of a cat on it.

While initially unassuming, on closer inspection it was revealed that the cat was dressed as Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor, in her trademark outfit of a striped t-shirt, trench coat and yellow suspenders.

The crossover was spotted by one viewer, who tweeted: “I might be losing my mind here, but in s2 of #TheBoys does Frenchie wear a T-Shirt with a picture of a cat dressed as Jodie Whittaker in #DoctorWho. And how is that a sentence I just typed?”

Frenchie's (Tomer Capon) shirt was a nod to the 13th Doctor (Amazon Prime Video)

Fans of both shows were thrilled by the crossover, with one writing: “Big fan of the 13th Doctor cat face t-shirt in season 2 of The Boys.”

The Boys is set in a world in which superheroes are praised by society and have been corrupted by power and money. The series follows two groups: The Seven, consisting of these egotistical heroes, and The Boys, the vigilantes trying to control them.

It is based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book of the same name.
