The Office season 10? NBC eyeing revival for 2018

If you thought you'd seen the last of the Scranton, PA branch of Dunder Mifflin you could be in for a surprise, though whether it's a welcome one or not might depend on your optimism when it comes to reboots.

NBC is, according to TVLine, ready to put pen to paper on a new series of The Office (US), which would apparently 'feature a mix of new and old cast members' but not Steve Carell, with a search for a new Regional Manager to follow Michael Scott and all of his stand-ins believed to be already underway.

The potential revival would air in the 2018-2019 season and come off the back of the successful NBC return of Will & Grace, with network president Bob Greenblatt previously saying: "I’ve talked to Greg [Daniels, show creator] four times over the past few years. It’s always, ‘Maybe someday, but not now’. There is certainly an open invitation, but we don’t have anything happening right now. If he wants to do it, I would do it."

A new season of The Office would no doubt be a ratings hit, but whether it would go down well with fans and critics is another matter.

The Michael Scott-less seasons of the show were easily the poorest, and bringing back a few old characters might tarnish the sense of closure in the excellent finale.

Going forward with an entirely new set of characters may be the way forward, but it would take a lot for them to cherished as much as Jim, Pam, Dwight, Kevin et al.
