The Simpsons reluctantly accept their new lives as Disney characters

Disney has confirmed that more than 600 episodes of The Simpsons will be available to stream on Disney+ in the UK and Ireland.

The streaming service announced the news on Twitter, saying: “Over 600 episodes of The Simpsons + Disney + Pixar + Marvel + Star Wars + Nat Geo = D’oh not miss out!”

While Sky will retain co-exclusive rights for the time being, Disney will host the vast majority of the hit cartoon’s back catalogue, including the first 10 seasons, which are widely regarded as the series’ best.

Simpsons fans were quick to voice their delight at the announcement.

“We got justice”, said one user, with another stating that “£5.99 a month is worth it for The Simpsons alone”.

Many other commenters simply replied with “woo hoo”, a celebratory catchphrase often used by Homer Simpson.

The Simpsons has been available to watch on the US version of Disney+ since its launch in November, but Sky’s ownership of the UK broadcast rights had cast some doubt about the situation here.

Disney+ launches in the UK on 24 March 2020.
