Scottish firefighter Stevie McCrorie has been crowned the winner of this year's The Voice UK.

The 29-year-old clinched victory in the fourth series of the TV talent competition after beating the operatic Lucy O’Byrne in last night’s final.

His debut single, “Lost Stars”, is a cover of Adam Levine from Maroon 5’s song and the track was available to download from midnight.

"I'm so lost for words right now. I can't thank everyone enough for doing this for me," he told the audience after the result was announced.

McCrorie from Clackmannanshire said that he wanted to be a "successful and sustainable artist". He is already in line to perform at this year’s T in the Park festival in July.

He was coached by the Kaiser Chiefs' lead singer Ricky Wilson following the departure of The Script’s Danny O'Donoghue after the last year’s third series.

Following the win Wilson said that he told McCrorie, "It's on your shoulders now. You have to be a success. And I know that you're going to do everything you can to do it because this is where it starts."

The Voice has been slammed in the past for failing to produce a successful artist unlike its rival X Factor. Responding to the criticism, Wilson quipped, "Stevie hasn't won it before."

Fellow judge and Black Eyed Peas star Will.i.am has hit out at the producers before for not having a single ready for release in the days preceding the winner being announced, which could be the reason that the winner’s track was available from last night.
