The Walking Dead season 9 episode 16 'The Storm' final scene 'Maggie?'

AMC has revealed when The Walking Dead will debut its tenth season.

The zombie drama will return to screens almost six months after it broadcast its latest episode – the season nine finale, which hinted at the return of a long-standing character.

True enough, recent reports stated that showrunner Angela Kang is in the process of attempting to get Lauren Cohan back into the show following the cancellation of her ABC sitcom Whiskey Cavalier.

Her character Maggie Rhee departed at the same time as Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

Quite what direction the tenth season will go in remains to be seen, but the opportunities are endless now that the source material has come to an end.

Samantha Morton will return as the villainous Alpha, as will Jeffrey Dean Morgan whose character Negan is still alive.

The first trailer for The Walking Dead season 10 will be unveiled at Comic-Con later today, where several cast members will be in attendance.

This new season is widely expected to be the last for Danai Gurira who has played Michonne since season three.

The Walking Dead will return to AMC on 6 October with its UK broadcast expected to follow the next evening on FOX.
