Top of the Lake: China Girl - Season Two trailer

Top of the Lake season 2 has debuted a first trailer almost four years after the first instalment bowed.

Jane Campion's high-profile series sees Elisabeth Moss return as Detective Robin Griffin alongside new cast additions Nicole Kidman and Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie who will play Griffin's law enforcement colleague.

Holly Hunter can also be seen in the trailer, reprising her role as spiritual leader GJ.

Filming for season two - which is subtitled China Girl - took place in Sydney, Australia last year. This follow-up centres on the investigation into a body that washes up on Bondi Beach.

The drama series' first season followed Griffin's investigation into the disappearance of a pregnant 12-year-old girl. Moss won a Golden Globe for the role in 2014.

Top of the Lake season two will premiere at Cannes Film Festival which kicks off on 17 May. It is expected to air on BBC Two later this year following its launch on the Sundance Channel in the US.
