The new trailer for True Detective has dropped online, showcasing seasons two's star-studded new cast.

Fans of the HBO series have been waiting over a year for the new series to air. The trailer reveals that season two will show on in the US HBO on 21 June.

Set in California, a murder will bring together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, to solve a tale of conspiracy and betrayal.

The second installment of the crime drama will follow an entirely new plot, setting and cast, featuring Hollywood A-listers Colin Farrell (Total Recall), Rachel McAdams (Mean Girls), and Vince Vaughn (The Break Up).

Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA, while Vince Vaughn will depict Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life's work. Meanwhile, Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff's detective.

Season one was met with rave reviews, and won five Primetime Emmy awards, two Writers Guild of America awards, and was nominated for a Golden Globe.

It also helped former romcom staple Matthew McConaughey breathe new life into his career - a move dubbed the McConaissance.
