Sunny pays tribute to Cassie in heartbreaking 'Unforgotten' series 4 finale

Sanjeev Bhaskar has shared a touching note Nicola Walker wrote him on the set of Unforgotten.

The actor, who plays DI Sunil “Sunny” Khan, didn’t read the note until the sixth and final episode of the hit ITV drama’s latest run had completed filming.

Shortly after its broadcast on Monday (28 March), he posted the note’s emotional contents on Twitter, which took on heartbreaking light in the wake of the episode’s events.

After solving the investigation into the historic death of Matthew Lewis, Sunny discovered that his boss and best friend Walker’s DCI Cassie Stuart had died from injuries suffered in the car crash at the end of the penultimate episode.

In the series’ devastating closing moments, Sunny can be heard eulogising his friend as he visits her grave.

“Cass Stuart was my colleague, my mentor, my friend... and I love her,” he says.

On Twitter, Bhaskar wrote: “Thank you all for carrying us through series 4 of @UnforgottenTV. The last of this series #sunnysbackpack was unbeknownst to me, packed by #NicolaWalker - with a note she wrote, when I opened it on set. I cracked.”

It reads: “Dear Sunny, I love you, you know. It’s worth saying sometimes. Cassie x.”

Viewers struggled to keep it together following the fourth series’ conclusion.

It is unknown whether there will be another series of Chris Lang’s drama.
