Avengers: Endgame nearly featured a WandaVision ‘body bag’ post-credits tease
Blockbuster broke from Marvel tradition and did not include a post-credits scene
The 2019 Marvel blockbuster Avengers: Endgame almost had a post-credits scene that foreshadowed the events of WandaVision, it has emerged.
Marvel Cinematic Universe films have become known for inserting jokes, easter eggs and previews of forthcoming releases in their closing credit sequences, though Endgame opted not to indulge in the tradition.
However, actor Paul Bettany, who plays Vision in the MCU, revealed that Endgame almost tipped its hat to WandaVision in its final moments.
Vision was killed during the events of 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War, although the character mysteriously reappears alongside Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff in first few episodes of WandaVision.
“At one point I was going to be in a [post-credits] tag, where you opened a sort of body bag drawer and there was the Vision,” Bettany told Olsen during an interview for IMDb.
“[Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige] kind of talked to me and said, ‘I’ve got to pull the shots.’”
Bettany joked that he “was like, ‘Urgh’”, because he “really wanted that profit participation”.
The first two episodes of WandaVision debuted on Disney+ last Friday, with new episodes arriving on the streaming service on a weekly basis.
WandaVision sees Wanda and Vision trapped in a series of 20th-century US sitcom parodies, with seemingly no memory of their former selves.
