WandaVision theory: Mystery behind toy helicopter revealed

Observant fans have worked it out

WandaVision is here, and it marks the first new Marvel project in over a year.

The nine-part series has launched its first two episodes on Disney+, and the reviews so far have been glowing.

Many are highlighting how inventive the show is – it centres on Scarlet Witch, whose real name is Wanda Maximoff (Elisabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany), who we last saw dying at the end of Avengers; Infinity War.

Here, they’re a married couple living in a 1950s black-and-white sitcom fit with a laughing track. All seems well save for the fact that the pair have no idea how they made it there, and the fact that Wanda keeps noticing things are amiss.

One such moment arrives when they hear a bang on their bedroom window. The next day, Wanda finds a red and yellow toy helicopter in the garden.

It’s an odd moment heightened by the fact the toy is the only splash of colour in the shot. While many viewers will be left intrigued, others have played detective and think they’ve worked out the meaning behind a toy.

In an old trailer for the show, a shot shows a life-size helicopter flying towards what looks to be a giant orb surrounding an unknown location. The theory is that this is the reality Wanda has created for herself (find out why here), and that the helicopter tried to enter.

However, instead of making it through the orb, it got reduced into the toy plane we see in the second episode.

What happened to the pilot? Many are believing this to be the character introduced to us as Geraldine, who Marvel have previously revealed is actually an older version of Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Paris), the young girl fans first met in Captain Marvel. She’s currently living in Wanda’s reality – and has no idea of her real identity.

Interestingly, the series’ opening credits tease the arrival of the MCU’s most terrifying villain yet.
