Westworld: Season 2 episode 3 preview

Our Westworld correspondent Jacob Stolworthy suggested it could have been the "greatest episode to date", with an action-packed spectacle that "slammed the breaks on the mythology" of Westworld and looked towards world-building.

Now the star of the HBO series, Evan Rachel Wood, has commented on the massive battle sequence between hosts and humans that played out in "Virtu e Fortuna", where the Wyatt side of Dolores was firmly established.

Leading the charge against the park's security, Dolores commanded an army of her most loyal followers - "the horde"- and the Confederados she recruited in "Reunion".

At first it looked as though the odds were stacked against them, but, in a dark twist, Dolores acted out her real plan of using the Confederados as human shields so she could destroy the security forces and wipe out hosts she deemed unworthy of seeking the "Valley Beyond".

Wood told the Hollywood Reporter that this is the moment Wyatt is in "full form", and explained "the turn she takes at the end of the battle is really jarring, not just because it's so gruesome, but because of the way her mind works.

"This is when you're really seeing the mastermind behind the killings and the manipulations to get the job done, and the way she's having to think, and how terrifying it actually is. She's highly tactical and unpredictable. It shows you where she's at: you're a little more afraid of her now. You never really know when she's telling the truth or not. She's kind of a wild card."

Westworld airs on HBO in the US and through Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK
