Westworld: Season 2 trailer

Westworld star Jeffrey Wright has seemingly confirmed the month that season 2 of the HBO series will be released.

Jeffery Wright, who plays Bernard, posted a photo to Instagram with the caption: "Pretty cool. I've spent so much time inside #Westworld these past 6 months this feels like a self-portrait. 3 days of filming left, and then we're circling back online in April... hard."

The message was swiftly edited with Wright changing the word 'April' to 'Spring."

The first trailer for the sophomore run of the cable network's sci-fi western hybrid - an adaptation of the 1973 film of the same name - was released at Comic-Con last year, and some brief new clips released by HBO have continued to showcase the danger faced by guests of the park after the robotic hosts took control in the closing moments of the first season.

In footage that was previously released, Maeve Millay (Thandie Newton) is shown with a gun, threatening Lee (Simon Quarterman).

HBO began heightening the excitement levels for Westworld season 2 with a new website update providing chilling clues as to what's to come in future episodes.

The first season, which boasted an impressive cast including Evan Rachel Wood, Ed Harris and Anthony Hopkins, scored both rave reviews and impressive viewing figures upon its debut in September 2016.

Season 2 sees the likes of Gustaf Skarsgard, Fares Fares and Betty Gabriel joining the cast alongside Talulah Riley who has been promoted to series regular status.

Other shows returning to the premium cable network include Ballers, Room 104 and Issa Rae's Insecure.

Westworld season 2 will air on HBO and Sky Atlantic in Spring 2018. Here's everything we know so far.
