Marvel's X-Men 'in development' to be made into TV series for Fox
The franchise may get a live-action series if Marvel gives the go-ahead
Marvel’s X-Men could be making its small screen debut soon.
US channel Fox is in negotiations to adapt a live action series for TV, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Former Star Trek 3 screenwriting duo Patrick McKay and JD Payne are set to pen the potential TV show, with 24 producers Evan Katz and Manny Coto also on board.
X-Men: Days of Future Past writer Simon Kinber hinted at the prospect of a TV show last April, citing the success of ABC’s Agents of SHIELD (2013) and Netflix’s Daredevil (2015).
Kinber said: “It makes sense to tell some of these stories in TV partly because there’s just not enough screens to do all these characters, and also because the serialized format of comic books is better suited for TV.”
Although Twentieth Century Fox holds the film rights, Fox still requires a green light from X-Men comics’ publisher Marvel to approve a deal for TV.
The film franchise has already launched eight movies, with the forthcoming X-Men: Apocalypse due to be released in the summer of 2016.
To date, Marvel has three additional series on their roster for 2015, including Agent Carter on ABC, and Iron Fist and Luke Cage on Netflix.
