TIMING does not come much worse than the Rambert Dance Company's decision to dispense with its Mercury Ensemble and its music director, Roger Heaton - reported this week as a cost-cutting measure. Choreographers and composers in general have been working more closely together than of old: there are sought-after courses and grants to encourage the links. Of course times are hard, but what sort of economy is it to abandon one of the main channels of creativity? The company should think again, and get talking fast to its supporters in the contemporary music world.
